"Top Ten" Publications

I have selected these based upon a combination of criteria.  Some are among my most frequently-cited papers and others are personal favorites.  Actually, below you will find two "top 10" lists: the first contains papers reporting original research and the second consists of influential review articles or commentaries.  Recently (January 2008) I was asked to provide a list of my five most important papers along with the rationales for my selection.  My "top five" are indicated by asterisks in the table below and the rationales may be found here.
